So you're probably wondering why the Tumblr link has disappeared off the left nav, you know, despite me making a dedicated button for it. Well, aside from the CEO losing his shit, turns out the company that runs the site is in talks to sell user data to companies that develop AI Learning algorithms, and more importantly, they didn't fucking give its userbase enough of a heads up to opt out ahead of time.
This of course, is coming hot off the heels of a recent scandal in which event coordinators in Glasgow used AI art to advertise their event, which of course looked absolutely nothing like the images they were using to promote it. Immersive Willy Wonka experience my ass! It does kind of feel like a one two punch of absolute fuckery.
So, with this in mind, I can no longer in good conscience direct people to my tumblr when I'm damn sure that the 14 FUCKING YEARS of data I've aggregated is going to be used to train more of these shitty-ass algorithms, which will empower scammers to create more convincing AI generated works. There's a lot of articles out there from people way smarter than I about how AI is an absolutely horrendous bit of tech for creatives. But I do have to ask this: Why the FUCK are we trying to automate the creative process instead of automating the tasks that are ACTUALLY FUCKING BULLSHIT. As if mass media culture wasn't enough of a flood of corporate swill designed by committee, at least there were actual fucking HUMANS working on it.
I really fucking hate the future, man.
